The mod team has decided that additional consequences are beginning to be necessary. So I wanted to come forward and put forth the "line" that should not be crossed so as not to surprise anyone.

Problem is, that line isnt yet known, so for the time being, and comments or posts that DO cross the line will receive a direct warning to be changed and that another act of that level will be banned, we will archive the bans so to build a kind of case law that can be referred to to make it less subjective as for when to or not to ban.

Consider this warning number one.

This is not to silence dissenters, this is to remove the people who's goal it is to make this a worse place. If you are willing to discuss, then some level of hostility is inevitable, but when I see it beginning to move away from heated conversation and into an insult contest, I will step in with a warning.

We don't WANT anyone to have to be banned. This is supposed to be a space where you can freely give your opinion without fear of censorship, but if your opinion is 'the person I'm talking to is a worse person than me' without any actual conversation. You have crossed the line. Even if it IS still containing conversation, at some point your behavior and language will still be crossing the line. Very gray here, which is why I will be giving warning first and keeping an archive to tighten the definition over time.
