Giant Defy Advanced - 1 vs 2 -which deal?
Post Body

Hello - I've got a bit of a dilemma on which bike to choose. I've decided to purchase a Giant Defy Advanced new (or close to new; more on that in a second). I've decided on either the Advanced 2 or the Advanced 1. If I go with the Advanced 2, I'll likely buy from Giant through my LBS.

However, I've found a deal on an Advanced 1 through a bike rental shop in another city in my province. It would be used, then serviced end of season and sent to me. I'd be purchasing it for about $800-1K cheaper than the 2 after tax and shipping (approx 2k CDN for the 1 vs $3k for the 2) and would receive it in October (this is fine with me as I can save up some more; also given Covid is killing tourism right now, i expect it may be not all that "used" anyway).

The "dilemma" is that the 1 from the rental shop won't come with a warranty through Giant. The shop will "guarantee" the condition. They're reputable and I trust that if there was an issue soon after I receive it they would address it. That said, if anything were to happen down the line, I would assume I'm on my own. If I were to purchase the 2, I would have Giant's warranty, which would be handy.

Which bike would you choose? Is the $1k savings for a better bike worth it, even with no warranty? Or would you advise spending the extra amount for the bike with the warranty (for the record, I'm more than fine with the 105 on the 2 though the ultegra on the 1 is a "nice to have"). I've heard Giant's carbon frames are good quality, but obviously not a bad idea to have in case.

Happy to hear any advice -thanks in advance!
