Wheelchair help

Okay so I have a manual wheelchair but I do also have an electric wheelchair but because it’s electric it can only fit in my mums boot as it has a ramp so when I go out with other people I use my manual wheelchair and also plan on start taking it to school. Was wondering how do u guys manage to wheel yourself my hands get so painful and become red what stops that from happening?
