Tricky ID request [Sydney Australia -North Shore]
So the reason it's tricky is... No photo sorry but it comes with a fun story for me to tell.
Monday night, about 10pm, it's wet, lightly raining and fairly cold so didn't expect any snakes. I live in beautiful bushland area near a creek with a wealth of local wildlife.
I take the dog out to do her business ( I'm wearing 🩴🩴 ) and get bitten by something. I step back and see movement and I'm pretty sure it's a snake. Not too big, width of an index finger, seemed to be writhing, was quite dark and I didn't stick around to get a proper ID. I think either it was mating or eating and wrapped around its dinner. I'm pretty sure I was looking at the underside of it and it was kind of a light grey.
Being that I've been bitten, and most snakes here are venomous I've shooed the dog inside with me and laid down on the bed hoping I'm not about to be violently ill or worse. No blood, it had bitten a fairly calloused part of my foot.
I'm guessing from the area maybe a golden crown snake but the colouring doesn't seem correct.
Any ideas on what I likely was bitten by?
