Post Body

While visiting one of the natural hot springs in Idaho, my wife and I found these at the bottom of one of the pools.

  1. What are they?
  2. Were these just dropped by someone or do they occur naturally in places like this?
  3. Are they even the same rock composition?
  4. Is it possible to have a rough/natural version of the specimen in the same general area as a smooth version?

One rock is obviously polished, but is it naturally worn down or was it smoothed by humans, like in a tumbler? Maybe over the eons they come tumbling down the tiny creeks from the rocky cliffs above and become smooth like the rocks in a river?

The other rock is natural and rough. They were not found together (maybe 20ft apart or so).

Any info would be appreciated. My wife and I are curious.
