Earlier today I bought a bouquet from a nearby supermarket. It includes a plant I don't recognize, but would like to learn more about. There were no floral staff available to ask.

The plant is pictured in the link. It is seemingly flowerless. The most obvious features are thin, spiky serrated looking leaves and a purple center where you might expect a flower to be.

Since I bought it from a store, I am not sure what region or environment it comes from. I am located in 8b though.

It doesn't have any perceptible smell to me, but my cat loves it. He keeps trying to eat it.

I have asked my neighbors. We all have small gardens of different kinds, but aren't sure what it is. I have an oversized photo book of flowers, but it isn't in there either.

Does anyone recognize this plant?
