Hello everybody, we are new to the US (Long Island, NY) and I found these in the bedroom ceiling. There were around 20~22 of them in close quarters and since we have an infant at home, I had to get rid of them quick. I used an Ant Spray on them, and soon enough they started flying and seemed to fly carelessly first and then some even flew aggressively towards me and around me. In my experience the Housefly’s that I've seen before this would run for their life if anything approach them. So, the kind of housefly’s that I have seen outside of this continent are primarily of 2 size, small and big. But these were even bigger than the big ones and the colors on them were spectacular (esp when you zoom and view them on computer). As you can see, they are shiny green on their abdomen and Black / grey type material on their thorax region. They were around 3 to 4 cm in length and had a lot of spikes on their outer surface. Also, their wings seems to be longer than their body.

Observation:

• Around 3 (~ 4) cm Length.
• Curved body observed when dead.
• Red Eyes with black spikes all throughout their body.
• Shiny greenish blue abdomen with black thorax.
• Wings longer than body.
• Loc - Long Island, New York.

I did try to find out what these were on the web (Google) and surprisingly there weren't many clear info or photos distinguishing these fly’s that I could find. It will be nice if someone can tell me

1. What kind of fly are these?
2. How would so many of these get in, in the first place? We keep our places locked and the windows have mesh net on them to filter any insect / fly’s?
3. Why would they be attached to one side of the ceiling?
4. Is there a good resource on insects and fly’s in the US? I did check the FrequentlyAskedBugs section here on r/whatsthisbug and there were no info on them.
