Startled? Surprised?
As in
"I had never had sex with my same gender before. In fact, the possibility never occurred to me, and thinking about it was a mixture of surprise, repulsion, confusion, then curiosity. Well more like Huh? I was nervous and making jokes, but I wasn't really ever against it. It was, well... new. I knew I didn't have any attraction to my own gender, so you couldn't say I was 'bi-curious'. But I certainly wasn't against it, so you couldn't say I was 'bi-phobic' or 'homophobic.' Nor was I attracted to the idea, so I wasn't rally 'bi-phillic.' I was just 'bi-startled'."
Except in this passage "startled" isn't the right word.
What could be?
