SOLVED SOLVED SOLVED!! I read it when I was in 4th-6th grade, so it would have been about 2004, I got the vibe it was at least based in like the 80’s, maybe? It’s from a first-person perspective of a young girl. She describes herself as having red hair and pale skin. Large plot point is that she makes her own clothes. Her family takes in an exchange student (I think??) who’s described as having golden brown skin with dark brown hair. I remember nothing about the rest of the actual content of the story except for, somewhere along the lines, it’s revealed that the exchange student girl is like, stealing this girl’s life, like by a supernatural means. Like I vividly remember a line of dialogue in this part of the book she goes “why do you think you made your dress pink? Pink’s my color.” Or something like that? And that’s what made her realize it was true? That she didn’t make her dress green to bring out her eyes or some shit? Please help, I think about it every day but I remember so little.
