Guessing it was published before 2000 but that’s not a given. I read a lot of 1990s era fantasy novels.
I remember it was your standard fantasy novel. Would have been from a library
I don’t believe he was a character, , but seeing the name Vercingetorix jogged my memory. More that it was like the druids from that time period traveled to some alternate world using their magic and we’re key characters somehow
not Shannara or Recluse. Has some plot point parallels but not the right idea.
