Short story about a magical piece of amber that gives an unlimited supply of whatever it’s stored with

My school’s librarian read it to our grade 4 class in 1991. I have no idea when it was written, but, I was always so fascinated by this piece of amber.
It was found by a boy from a poor family and he realized it’s power when he kept it in his pocket and whatever was in there kept reappearing after it had been used.
