So, I read the story maybe two or three years ago. I read the book on my sister's kindle, and she only gets e-books on Amazon, so I thats the most likely source. It was a contemporary story.

The plot was, that the heroine and the hero knew each other from college, where he was stringing her along as a booty-call. Then he left without a word to her and joined some NFL team and became filthy rich. He comes back, maybe a decade later, fullfilling a child's wish, that her foundation was granting, sees the woman he used to string along and tries to win her heart back. I also think she was jewish and that was a plot point in the novel. Also, his name might have been Lance, but I'm totally not sure about that.
