Civil war teen's ghost looks for pocket watch,gets entanhled with live teen; ghost almost dies.

I read a book in elementary school about a teen that died in the civil war, and somehow his ghost came back, and he was looking for his pocketwatch that he died with, and somehow he got entangled with a young boy, and the ghost almost died or something because he couldnt get to his pocket watch in time.
The cover,I think, was a boy standing next to a tree in a field surrounded by fog. It was something like that.
