I can't remember much about this book but I remember there being a section where people from either a certain big city or the whole nation started getting hand implants and the narrator/main character drew comparisons to the Mark of the beast. I am fairly certain it was a mystery/crime solve sort of book. These last three hints could be true but I could be imagining them; The book had a mostly purple and red cover The book had millenium in the title or that word was said multiple times in the book This was supposed to have been written before Y2K or in universe took place around Y2K
