Can I get back WhatsApp messages with a backup on my iPhone?

I deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp because it kept crashing, and had backed it up “on my iPhone” instead of the cloud. Now when I reinstalled all my messages are gone. Is there any way to get them back? Even by using third party software?
