Deleted a muted contact

If I just delete a contact I know I will see their phone number instead of their name if they contact me.
But what will happen if I delete a contact that I have on mute? Will their messages show up in my chat list or will they not even go thru, like a block?
If it is like blocking them, is it forever or does WhatsApp still remember how long that contact was blocked?
