Is it possible to identify the species of this whale from its ear bone?
Post Body

It’s a tympanic bulla measuring about 5” long. I inherited the bone from my great aunt so I’m not sure of an exact location, but we’re in New England so it’s most likely from the Atlantic. It seems larger than most of the examples I can find online, which makes me hopeful it could be a blue whale.
