Was Mike Mentzer correct?

Lately YouTube had been pushing a lot of Mike Mentzer’s talks towards me. I’m not deep into body building or the different approaches. But I’ve listened to some of his longer talks about how to train and grow and honestly it sounds like a lot of what he had to say has been proven correct. High Intensity, infrequent, don’t sweat the details and just eat a well balanced diet, a simple caloric deficit will suffice, avoid low carb etc etc. workout just enough to push the envelope and recover accordingly.

I’m wondering about frequency and recovery periods. It’s pretty ingrained in me to follow progressive overload and to workout every other day but I hear him saying if you’re doing HIT you should follow the pattern of 1. Work. 2. Recover. 3. Grow. Repeat. That would suggest working out every 3 days at most.

Anecdotally/aesthetically I feel like I have had good results on every third day, but at the same time every third day feels like not enough frequency in terms of developing skill at lifting or sticking with the habit of exercise. I like every other day. Thoughts?
