Is it legal for my doctor to give me advice related to weed?

Post Body

I live in CA which is a state in the USA which has legalized weed. Federally weed is still a schedule I drug.

I am a bit confused on what I can or cannot talk to my doctor about in relation to consumption of weed. And am especially curious when it comes to my psychiatrist and therapist.

Im not worried about getting in trouble so much as them potentially getting in trouble or being told they aren't allowed to discuss the topic.

Given it's not prescribed, and a schedule I substance are they allowed to give me any advice outside of "stop consuming it"? Can they for example say things like "Your consumption of weed may interact with X" or "Try seeing if this continues if you take a break from weed" or "See if you can consume weed further away from your sleep" etc etc.

I just dont know if their hands are tied here.
