So one of my best friendos is getting married in August. This will be the first wedding I've been to. I'm gonna be the Maid of Honour, but I'm a dude, lol. I'll be giving a speech but I'm at a loss as to how to go about doing it. The bride's family scares the shit out of me (extremely religious/conservative), mother is controlling as all get-out and doesn't like her daughter, the bride, hanging out with men, which means she doesn't like me by proxy. I've heard that the groom's family is WAY worse in those regards. The groom and I don't really know each other or get along that much. Most of the bridesmaid speeches I see revolve around telling stories about how the couple fell in love or something about the family, but I feel I can't fall back on those tropes, and that any attempt at humour would go over badly with the families.
Any thoughts/tips would be super appreciated! Thanks!
