Hi all you lovely brides! As a South Asian, I followed this group at first with a great deal of anthropological interest. Over time, I've grown to love the genuine warmth and camaraderie on here! So I thought I'd share some of my outfits from my Tamil wedding two years ago, with a few thoughts: - It's interesting how draping and pleating silk and silk-adjacent fabrics is such a universal aspect of bridal attire - a couple of my photos show my makeup person manually pleating and draping my saree and pinning it in place - While white and ivory dominate in your cultures and are generally avoided in ours, there is a fair bit of room to play with the palette at ceremonies before or after the main event - sharing an ivory dress I wore at my reception, and some of the traditional jewellery that goes with it - I also find the bridal bouquet and its South Asian equivalent (the garland) fascinating, as also floral adornmenta for the hair - anthropologically speaking, flowers in their transience (riot of colour and fragrance in their brief and wondrous lives) signify liminality, or spaces of transition; here, I love the idea of flowers standing witness to the crossing over from one life-stage to another... Happy to do another comparison post with outfits from the main wedding ceremony, if y'all find this of interest! Mods - not sure how fitting this post is for the sub, so please delete if it's inappropriate/irrelevant. :)
Picture 5 has me absolutely enthralled!
