To start, I have to say that I love both male leads, Eunhyeok and Dohwa. They are both great characters, each in their own way. However, I would rather see Dohwa end up with Suae instead of Eunhyeok.
Haru's quote—"The fate of the person loved by everyone is no different than the fate of the person loved by no one…”—fits well with Dohwa and Suae. Dohwa is loved by everyone, while Suae feels like she is loved by no one. Even though I enjoyed how Eunhyeok and Suae’s relationship developed, it’s clear that Haru played a big part in their story. Even with his interference, Dohwa was always there too. It’s like a struggle between what is meant to be and what is forced to be. Both male leads had pure feelings for Suae, but Dohwa’s love stood out because he worked hard to become a better person, knowing he was at a disadvantage compared to Eunhyeok. What people expected from Dohwa, Eunhyeok already had. Despite his dislike for the spotlight and his appearance, Dohwa pushed himself to become an idol. He even started reading Suae’s favorite book just to meet her expectations.
Was it right for Dohwa to move away? Yes, it was. He knew he was standing between Suae and Eunhyeok, but he couldn’t stop himself. He confessed his love to her until the very end. Was Suae to blame for anything? No, she wasn’t. There’s a line in her book that goes, “It’s those that can’t be blamed who are worse.” Dohwa knew he couldn’t blame Suae, and Suae couldn’t blame him for falling in love with her.
But what about Eunhyeok disappearing from Suae’s life for ten years without even a goodbye? I can’t find any excuse for that. Ten years is a long time. Even if he had a good reason to leave, he should have tried to reach out. At the very least, he could have broken up with her properly so she could move on. Instead, he left her confused and questioning herself, which was unfair no matter how you look at it.
Then, ten years later, they meet again. Dohwa didn’t recognize Suae at first, but he was drunk, so it’s understandable. When he saw her card the next morning, he looked like a kid who just got the best gift ever. He was genuinely happy. Despite all the time that passed, Dohwa’s feelings for Suae didn’t change, and he was respectful to her, even remembering the last time he had seen her, when he cried while confessing his love.
Eunhyeok’s return was very different. He saw Suae in a restaurant, and instead of showing any emotion, he was indifferent. From my experience, the opposite of love isn’t hate—it’s indifference. When they met again at Suae’s workplace, Eunhyeok acted like nothing had happened, like their relationship and his ten-year absence didn’t matter. Suae’s reaction was completely understandable. After what he did, he just casually showed up, acting friendly without even apologizing. That felt disrespectful to Suae, as if their past didn’t matter at all.
Adding to this, the title of the webtoon is Operation True Love. Let's say Minwook (I forgot the name but hte first boyfriend) was the puppy love, Eunhyeok is the great love, Dohwa is the true love. If it's like this, it justifies the title and what's currently happening in the story.
In the end, I think Suae and Dohwa are the better match. Eunhyeok is a good person and a well-written character, but after what he did, it doesn’t feel right for him to be with Suae again.
