Hello I'm an Architect, in the past I have always used web developers to create my portfolio, and also business websites however I have some extra time on my hands and I am looking to learn some basic web development to add some extra skills to my portfolio and just because I think it will be fun.
I have a few questions before I get started.
I am essentially looking to create a static portfolio site with an attached blog. To do this I have been looking at learning html, css and maybe a bit of javascript, then hosting with a service such as netlity or github pages. However as I understand it becomes hard to embed a blog in this way and I would require a seperate blog, e.g. a wordpress. Is this correct?
My second option is to use a static site generator such as hugo or Jekyll, what would I need to learn to do this? would it still be html, css?
Obviously the final option would be to use a wordpress however I have a dislike for wordpress as in the past I have found it to be too cluttered and also the constant updates, and various plug ins I find annoying.
Thanks for any and all advice.
