Are there any good tutorials for hand rolling or making your own web audio player?

I'm in the process of making a project that deals with some mp3 files and it would be great if i could make my own audio player to replace the html5 default audio tag or get some kind of waveform to render in its place with similar controls (similar to soundcloud) any information on how I could do this on a rails web app using react would be greatly appreciated!!!
