Hello,
So a little about me before I get to the post. Many years ago I earned a BSC in Psychology. Healthcare wasn't for me (US and those problems) and eventually I gained work as a Data Scientist. Did that for a few years, but in my spare time really dove into actual software development with Python and JS. I grew to really like web development, although I think I'm more of a backender at the mo' (given the DS and python background), but I really like front-end. Currently, I'm in a Master's conversion degree, with aspirations to become a real software engineer/developer after I graduate.
Since my degree is basically "all things IT" our thesis can be about anything, but as I want to do webdev when I grow up, I'm wanting to do something with that. My professor has given a list of suggested topics, but most of them are on cyber security (yawn) or data science/AI (big fucking no from me, I don't ever want to work as a data scientist again if I can help it). I'm really struggling to come up with something to research. I was hoping to build an application as part of my thesis (demonstrate what I know / how to apply what I'm researching) but it kind of feels like everyone's figured everything out. I'm just wondering if anyone can help maybe point me in a direction of topics.
Quick edit: it doesn't have to be novel, or unique or never been done before, but I am just, like, very lost and paralysed (metaphorically) at the moment.
I know I don't need a master's degree, but since I don't have any of the other credentials other than a shitty github, and I'm self taught, I wanted to do this for my own knowledge's sake and also to get a job. Also, it's already paid for so its too late to back out now.
