Hey guys, I know that this is pretty much all that /r/webdesign consists of but could you give me any pointers with a design I've created for an assignment?

This is what I have so far, It's for our University Ultimate Frisbee team. This is obviously only the home page but as an overall design what do you think?

I don't like the spacing of the footer, that will be corrected, and some events will be listed under Events

EDIT: OK, took everyone's thoughts on board and realised that the red is a bit OTT

Here's the design with the red 'Toned down' a bit

Here's a dark version of the design using red to accent
