Hi about a week ago we had a very strong line of thunderstorms come across the lake.
We live about 1km inland from the central great lakes. It was a very slow moving line and we could hear the thunder slowly grow louder over 2 hours. When it was seconds from being over us and there was a lot of lighting and thunder at 9am, it was as dark as just before sunrise and the sky was a little green.
Anyways it woke my wife up and there was a loud "Bwwommp", very base heavy sound. Sorry of that sound stupid lol, it's hard to describe. My wife was slightly freaked out by this sound as well.
It wasn't an electrical transformer or lighting arrestor on a utility pole getting hit. Where we live there's one line in so when the region gets hit the power goes off. Power never went off.
Anyways, anyone clever experience this/know what causes it? It's a new one for both of us. I'm hoping all this detail gives enough set/setting for an explanation.
I thought it could be to geography and sound reflecting but I grew up in the area too and never heard anything like that. It's just been in the back of my thoughts.
