Best non-firearm weapon for a shorter person with a speed based fighting style.

I am writing a story right now and my character is 5'10" (average height but not the tallest person out there) and I am having a hard time deciding what weapon he should have. His fighting style is going to emphasize speed and ariel abilities (wing chun and capoeira, think dardevil in the netflix series). I at first was going to give his some kind of bo staff that could also separate into 2 but now im not so sure, any suggestions?
