The Korea Entertainment Producers Association emphasized the importance of win-win cooperation between pop culture and arts planners and pop culture artists.
The Korean Entertainment Producers Association (Chairman Lim Baek-woon, Entertainment Association) today (13th) stated, “For the development of the Korean pop culture industry, it is important to maintain an equal relationship between pop culture and arts planners (promoters) and pop culture artists (entertainers).” “It is necessary,” he said.
Recently, K-pop idols such as the group BTS and Blackpink have achieved remarkable results in the global market, and K-contents such as the movie 'Parasite' and the drama 'Squid Game' have made a big impact globally, increasing the awareness of Korean celebrities. has risen significantly.
The Entertainment Association reported that celebrities abuse this influence and take advantage of loopholes in standard exclusive contracts to notify promoters of termination of exclusive contracts and file lawsuits. The standard exclusive contract for popular culture artists has been revised, and the Popular Culture and Arts Planning Business Registration System - Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act has been implemented to protect the human rights and interests of entertainers, strengthen their status as equal parties to promoters, and improve unfair practices in the popular culture industry. They argued that although a mechanism has been put in place, celebrities are protected by laws and systems, and promoters are not receiving any protection. It was mentioned that the cases of groups Fifty Fifty and Yoo Jun-won were similar cases.
Accordingly, the Entertainment Association said, “For an equal relationship between promoters and celebrities, there is a need to revise laws and systems to suit the current industry environment,” adding, “Currently, the government, the National Assembly, and related institutions and organizations are working together to revise the standard exclusive contract. “We are pursuing measures to revise related laws and improve the system,” he said.
In addition, we have strengthened our commitment to tempering. The Korea Entertainment Association said, "Any behavior that shakes the foundation of the industry through tampering must be eradicated, and all producers and entertainers who degrade the image of the industry and cause confusion through tampering must be expelled. We will take strong action against producers and entertainers who cause tampering." He added.
