I have been trying to catch as much of the Olympic polo coverage as possible and I have noticed a serious lack of one play aspect: driving!
Teams don't seem to be interested in driving whatsoever. Half the players in the pool sit seemingly stagnant for every possession. I feel like half a game is wasted in every match!
The play seems to be incredibly focused around the center forward play. For both offense and defense it all revolves around playing the center and (not)getting kick-outs there. Every team appears to use almost identical team-tactics on both offense and defense. I feel like most games are being won, not by great play, but by people getting lazy in sloughs/help-defense and the other team taking advantage.
Why is this? Lack of whistles on the perimeter? Afraid of the counter? ...something else?
