Our property is separated from our neighbors by a public alley (once graveled, now grassy) that doubles as our driveway. Our neighbor has a habit of parking their car in front of the entrance to the alley so that we cannot access our driveway. This evening, the neighborâs car was partially blocking the entrance. Unwisely perhaps, I tried to get the car in anyway, with my S.O. helping me to make sure I didnât hit their car. I avoided their car but bumped into a couple of small plants that they had planted on a mound of dirt that encroaches a few feet into the alley (hence the problems I was having getting the car in). The neighbor comes out and effectively accuses me of deliberately destroying her plants. I tell her that I had no intention of hitting them, but that they are plants and will grow back. My S.O. apologizes profusely for my terrible driving. The neighbor then tells me that millions of people have lived on the property and that I am the only one who has done this (of course I am because they only recently started planting plants in the alley). I was exasperated at this point and so walked away shouting âItâs all my fault! Itâs all my fault!â. The neighborâs husband then comes out and is enraged with me for yelling at his wife. I took the point and my S.O. calmed the situation and everyone goes inside. About ten minutes later, I see the husband outside again and go over to try to see if I can resolve the matter amicably as no one needs a neighborly feud. He then accuses me of committing assault (and hints at legal action [he is a lawyer]) because I yelled at his wife. I try to hide my incredulity but it seems Iâve got myself a neighbor feud. Great.
