I’ll go first—the writing community
I’ve lived in a bunch of places, but im super impressed by the writing scene in D.C. There’s something for everyone.
Here are a few highlights:
- The Writer’s Center (Bethesda, but close enough) – they offer workshops, readings, and a great network of writers.
- DC Writers Salon – the perfect spot for work-in-progress sessions and lectures on writing.
- The Inner Loop – a creative writing community that hosts regular readings and open mics, which are always a blast. -shut up and write sessions on meetup/eventbrite
- Politics and Prose – known for their classes and events. Plus, their readings are top-notch.
- Smithsonian Portrait Gallery – they have these poetry sessions where you write inspired by the art around you. Definitely worth checking out. Also have writing classes
- Rhizome DC in Takoma – they run quarterly writing retreats, classes, and poetry readings for when you want a more immersive experience.
- tons of random writing workshops on eventbrite.
I’m not including book related stuff or performance poetry as those are entirely other communities that often cross each other (that would a super long list)
What is one community in Dc you love! Let’s get people to find their interests.. for example, my friend is super invested in the Latin dance scene and dances almost every day here.
