I am going to DC this week and need some advice. I have done a bunch of Metro research but I am still struggling

Planning to park at the Greenbelt station and take the metro in. On the website it says that parking fees are less if you pay with a SmarTrip card originating from a station other than where you park

Does this mean that I would pay for a single trip into the city and then buy a SmarTrip card just for the ride back to the Greenbelt for the lower cost?

Also, isn't there a $15 min for SmarTrip, so I'd basically be paying $15 for the trip back to my car?

Can someone please help me understand this?
