Once upon a time the Washington football franchise was the biggest thing in town. You couldn't get tickets to a game and the waiting list for season tickets was 25 years long. (Not the phony list that Snyder pretended existed during his disastrous ownership)
To put in perspective, the team was so ingrained and beloved that the U.S. Marshals ran a sting operation in 1985 to capture over 100 of the city's most wanted criminals on the guise that they would get tickets to a game vs Cincinnati at RFK. That's how much getting a ticket meant in the glory years before Dan took them and turned them into Sears.
For folks who weren't in the city to experience that era, the team truly connected the city and region - you go back and watch the Super Bowl parade in 88, it's people of all backgrounds coming together. Sadly so many have only known the Snyder era of D.C. football until last year.
So with tonight's win, the possibility of a new stadium at RFK, a star rookie QB and owners who actually treat people with respect and care about the region as they grew up here, I say damn it's good to be back and I hope as many people jump on the bandwagon as possible. Not expecting everyone to turn into a sports fan, and yes, the obligatory we have lots of important issues to solve in the region, just posting because it's just great to once again have something fun to rally around and bring the city together like they did in the Jack Kent Cooke/Gibbs era. When the Caps and Nationals won recently, so many people joined in the celebrations even if just to be part of it - and I love that!
Hail!
