I still believe Kerr is a basketball genius. But like all of us, he has his strong points and his weaker areas.
He's a bona fide genius when it comes to strategy and gameplay. His motion offense changed basketball as much as Steph's marksmanship did.
But it seems like maybe he's not so great at personnel management and/or player development. When you look at his career, he really inherited a generational lineup, and all he had to do was put the guys on the floor and teach his revolutionary offensive (and, to some extent, defensive) concepts. He seems not to acknowledge that Klay's performance took a pretty bad hit in his two disastrous injuries, or that Dray has become less of an offensive threat and more toxic as the years go by.
I'm no basketball fanatic, let alone on the same level of understanding Kerr is at, but I don't agree when I hear him say things like, "We don't like having Wiggins and Kuminga on the floor at the same time." What's not to like?? Too MUCH size, firepower and athletic ability? And his faith in the "core three" players was extremely valid a few years ago, not so much now. (Although I've always though Dray was overrated.) My loyalty to the players extends only a little bit further than their current performance for the team extends.
Steve needs to make the leap and acknowledge that it's not working any more. He needs to taper off in one direction and expand in another. There's certainly room and time, even in this season, to do so.
