Recently rewatched the "Reckoning" Cinematic for the first time since seeing it when it released. At the time I was 100% in the camp of it being the writers making Sylvanas foolishly saying the quiet part out loud, but after learning what we do in Shadowlands I have a bit of a softer take on it now.
I mean if you knew about the broken machinery of death, a brewing war in heaven between the pantheon of death, and were basically a gods right hand...Wouldn't you be kind sick of the whole fairly pointless affair of the Blood War? More so when how it looked like Sylvanas seemed like she was phoning it in the whole time.
BFA commits a litany of storytelling sins, and Sylvanas' certainly gets her fair share. I don't know where I stand on her motivations being unknowable until now, whether that was an intentional thing to keep players guessing or an unintentional side effect of lazy storytelling. Probably both.
