CDRP (Cool Down Recovery Period)
When working in the heat and an environment that causes you to sweat, it is important to take periodic breaks/rest periods or cool down recovery periods (CDRP). These rest periods need to take place in a cool (i.e. climate controlled) or in a shaded area with air movement to provide a break from the heat. Rest periods should last at least five minutes or longer if needed and should be taken when the associate feels the need to do so in order to prevent overheating
During these CDRPs, do not perform any work
High Heat Practices: When the ambient heat index exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit, each associate must take a minimum ten-minute preventative CDRP in the shade at least every two hours, regardless of the overall length of the shift. Managers, remember to allow associates working in the hot weather to take frequent rest periods to get out of the heat.
CDRPs are separate from your regular 15 minute breaks. And they are required to take when the heat index is 90 degrees. So for my 7 - 4 shift, I take a CDRP at 8, break at 9, CDRP at 10, Lunch at 11 (back at 12), CDRP at 1, break at 2, CDRP at 3, clock out at 4. That's 1 required CDRP every 2 hours.
Don't kill yourselves outside in this heat. Best wishes from a cart pusher ❤️
