War Robots is a great game.
It has excellent graphics, game physics, controls, customisation, diversity and let's not forget the sound effects and atmospheric audio.. ( I turn the music off ). It doesn't take long to find a match at any hour of the day in any country that you're in. If you've got latency and connection problems, there a high probability it's the stability of your connection or the result of a global matchmaking system that relies on numerous points where degradation at any stage it affects the entire experience.
There are few games like it and it is hands down my favourite game that gets most of my screen time, despite having a high spec gaming laptop with a big library of AAA titles. I have purchased tablets and phones based on their capacity to play War Robots.
It is an excellent game that appeals to casual players who pick it up for a quick round here and there, as well as committed players who spend hours each day. Then you've got clans who organise themselves and develop strategies. It can be frustrating when you come up against different opponents, especially when their training and communication gives them such an advantage.
Matchmaking and League tanking is an issue, and you could argue that Pixonic could do more. I'm sure they could, but it's not a deal breaker. When I go up against clans like JPN, KOR and IllumiCorp who are known to be gold loaders, sure it's frustrating. But it's not a deal breaker. I can't expect to win every match.
The RANDOM queue can also be frustrating. I sure as heck don't want to play KOTH, but when I do with a full clan who are organised and communicate it can be fun... just not always. The increasing number of game modes along with the expectation to buy and populate five hangars is a pain in the arse.. but I'll make do. Like other things, it's not a deal breaker and I still love all the good things about the game more.
War Robots is a great game, that's why I play it. I've tried Battle of Titans for almost a couple of years in closed betas on iOS and Android and it's good. The physics are very different and it feels a little like the contrast between Call of Duty and Battlefield. It's not ready yet, and it's very lacking in weapons, bots and menu control. They're coming along nicely and I'm looking forward to the day it's launched, but War Robots is still my main bread and butter. The precision of control is fantastic. Criticise the aiming system all you want, it is VERY GOOD. Having only horizontal control makes it very intuitive to play on a touchscreen and is one of the things that makes the game so playable. Sure it has niggles and targeting quirks that I'd like fixed, but it's very usable and far better than any other mobile game.
Just cool your boots...
Every time you pick it up and play it, be aware of your own psychology and tendency toward addictive behaviour .. particularly toward gambling. It is a Pay to Win game and you WILL feel inclined to make purchases and most of them are very expensive and have layers of in-game currency conversions. You will grind for bots using mechanisms that employ a LOT of chance with highly skewed odds. You will feel inclined to purchase tokens to continue gambling just that little bit more, but before you do just remember; the house sets the rules and the house doesn't lose.
If you love gambling and you've got disposable income then go for gold .. (or tokens, or components, or keys, etc, hah) .. but if you've got an addictive personality and/or have had issues with gambling or financial irresponsibility, this game will goad you into spending. And if you do, the rewards are not final, but ever evolving and ever changing. There is no end game, the goal posts constantly shift.
Keep up your guard, both on the battlefield and for your personal wellbeing.
