Vue Native init breaks due to 'react-native-scripts'

I note that Vue Native relies/relied on create-react-native-app, and CRNA has changed to the expo-cli, so I'm wondering if that's thrown a spanner in the works of vue native? When I try to init I get these errors messages:
(node:21782) UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning: Error: Cannot find module '/Users/<username>/repos/testProject2/node_modules/react-native-scripts/build/scripts/init.js'
Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open 'app.json'
Has anyone battled their way around this?
