What is the mechanical benefit to touchstones?

Post Body

The V5 core book says you can pick between 1 and 3 personal convictions, and that you need a touchstone for each one. It implies that touchstones seem to give you some kind of mechanical benefit and therefore the impression I was left with is that you are incentivised to buy more.

However, I canโ€™t actually find any explanation of what the mechanical benefit to having extra convictions actually is. It just seems like a way to net more stains and thus lose humanity faster, which seems like a disincentive to having more than 1 conviction/touchstone to me.

Am I missing something?

Note: I am talking purely about mechanics. I know that there is a roleplaying benefit to having more than 1 conviction/touchstone.

Comments

Iโ€™m my game, if anyone does something morally questionable I invoke stains. They counteract with their convictions to neutralize or offset the impact of those stains.

Fir my game, it becomes a way to plead with me why their character feels personally convicted that the act justified itself to them.
