I am looking at this reasonably. Considering there are psychics and God like creatures in the star trek universe wouldn't you want the ability to be constantly monitored. Not to mention sabatogers and bad actors. It suprises me how often someone was missing from the ship without an alert going off. Security is just too low for something with photon torpedoes
