Long Time Star Trek Fan Finally Watches Voyager: Season 7 episodes 2-8
Post Body

Who wants a really long blog post? Because this was supposed to be two posts but I got lazy.

Imperfection: this episode is WAY more my speed. We lost some of the mini borgs and Seven is crying!

Haha every time Janeway tries to leave the ship alone she gets a following. Those scenes always make me so happy.

It’s odd that Seven doesn’t want help. She is usually pretty good about keeping herself maintained. I don’t get why she’s being so uncooperative. Icheb is adorable.

And look at Seven and B’Elanna connecting all of a sudden. “We difficult patients need to stick together.” This was so sweet.

Oh so NOW Janeway cares about medical ethics...

Awe then she was actually crying. And now I’m crying. This episode was beautiful. We don’t hear a lot of cursewords on this show but the Doctor saying, “Well, somebody better use the damn thing,” was perfectly timed. Icheb is so excellent. I was looking through a photo album of my dog, named Wesley after you know who during the beginning of this episode. Icheb reminds me of both Wesley the character and Wesley the dog. Listening to him being excited about Star Fleet academy and then caring about Seven. I live away from home to work in a COVID lab and God I just want to hold my dog. I’m not crying you’re crying.

Drive: Harry is going to fall in love with the alien girl, isn’t she? That’s close to how I actually wear my hair typically, in case anyone is interested in my Star Trek hair journey. That first scene was cute and exciting. And then B’Elanna and the Doctor.

You haven’t seen the doctor in a bathing suit...

I’ve been watching a lot of old olympic gymnastics lately and I am ALL about this right now. The captain’s reaction made me so happy.

Tom’s right he does not deserve B’Elanna and I can’t wait to see what adorable thing he does to make this up to her. But still poor B’Elanna.

Oh no she’s REALLY hurt. The scene with her and Neelix is boring but it does bring up an interesting thing about relationships I’ve never understood. I want a companion. If my partner came to me and said they wanted to cancel our plans, no matter how big, for a thrilling opportunity, I’d jump in with both feet. Piloting is Paris’s life. Why wouldn’t B’Elanna want to jump in with him? Run with him. I can’t believe Seven is the one who had to teach her that lesson. And now look, they’re working together as a team! It’s adorable. I can’t stop smiling.

Okay Tom was an ass on the ship. B’Elanna was right, bumps weren’t an illegal maneuver and they needed it to get in the lead. This is also a bad time to have a fight.

Oops the pretty girl is the bad guy. Harry tap your com, god damnit. Every time. You have a communications system. Use it. Gotta love the watermelon ship color scheme, by the way.

Tom and B’Elanna arguing about how Harry and Irena are a better couple while Harry is sitting with a gun pointed at Irena. It’s fantastic. This whole thing is fantastic.

“The only self I want to be is the guy that you’re in love with.” My HEART. While I do believe in individuality in a relationship my heart is exploding and suddenly I don’t care so much. Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss! Quickly before the fuel converter explodes. Are they going to get married? Please get married!

This is EXACTLY how I want to be proposed to. It was astoundingly beautiful. Chaotic, exciting, genuine. I just want to hold onto this episode. I’m speechless at this point. I just want to keep this.

Repression: uh oh I heard “prophets.” He pulled up the profiles for Tuvok, Chakotay, and B’Elanna. Shouldn’t Tom be on there too?

B’Elanna would look adorable with her hair in a cure little pony tail. I can’t watch 3D movies anymore :(

TUVOK QUIT IT WITH THE MIND MELDS.

I dunno this is kinda boring. I liked the holographic version of it better. I didn’t write many notes when I watched this. I’d love to hear what you guys thought about this.

Just to throw a summary in here in case this episode comes up later, this is the one where Tuvok had been hypnotized while he was in the Maquis, and then he started attacking Maquis crew members with mind melds. Then he went a little crazy, caused a rebellion, and then it just sort of ended. Tuvok fired at Janeway with a broken phaser and then suddenly decided that he couldn’t do this to her and snapped Chakotay out of it with, you guessed it, a mind meld!

Critical Care: I love this kind of episode The scene where Janeway pretends she’s dating Tuvok was funny.

A mind meld- TUVOK!

I recognize Dr.Dysek from something. I feel like he was one of the army guys in one of the time travel episodes from DS9.

I love that the doctor doesn’t give a crap about how he was kidnapped, because people are suffering and needs him to treat them. That said the moment he injected the administrator the virus was a little horrific.

Oh yes Dr.Dysek was on the side of treating patients!

I love that the doctor hoped that injecting the administrator with the virus was a malfunction. Because it shows he acknowledged what he did, and doesn’t believe that it represents who he is.

I liked this episode. It wasn’t quite as exciting as I thought it was going to be when I started. But it was still interesting. I’m kind of mad at the doctor, of course. But I love hospital based episodes, they’re always about saving lives and giving care which I love to watch.

Inside Man: this Barclay is way more professional and less chaotic!

Uh oh the Borg changed the program. Oh no it was the Ferengi. Why does it have to be the Ferengi?

It is SO CREEPY that Barclay followed Deanna on vacation where she is supposed to be with Riker.

These pathfinder project episodes are getting better. Barclay hit a stride of still terribly awkward but not so much so that I’m uncomfortable. I liked the holographic version of him. I liked the Ferengi

Body and Soul: we haven’t seen an episode like this often in Voyager. Enterprise had a lot of people getting imprisoned on alien planets/ships. Jeri Ryan is incredible, as always.

Oh of course we needed another Pon Phar episode.

It was funny to see the doctor drunk. But he absolutely was abusing her body. Both by drinking a ton of alcohol, and by using her sex appeal to get information.

Man Seven should be furious.

I can’t believe this ended with SEVEN learning a lesson and not the doctor. Also the solution was boring and Harry was underused. And the Pon Phar story was out of place and pointless. They just wanted Tuvok to have Pon Phar episode. It had no relationship to the other plot and also didn’t have enough going on to be a secondary plot in itself. I love B stories that have nothing to do with the other half of the episodes if they’re fleshed out enough to be a real story. I feel like there were a lot of scenes there that got cut for time.

I feel like the doctor should have learned something here about trust and violation.

Nightingale: Oh Icheb B’Elanna is not into you but nice try.

I think Harry made a mistake. I appreciate and respect what he did but I think he should have contacted Voyager and consulted the captain so she was aware of what was going on.

Did I miss something? I thought Tom and B’Elanna were engaged, not married. Did we not get to see their actual wedding?

Harry is getting a lil carried away.

And this whole, “They were lying about being doctors,” thing is exactly why Harry should have checked in with Voyager before going on a rescue mission. And then no kidding the crew decided not to follow his orders when he wanted to abandon their mission.

That said, up until the point where he made a conscious decision to captain a warship, I was willing to write it off as a misguided mistake. But once he was like, “Alright, it’s a war ship, I messed up and we shouldn’t take sides,” Seven pretty easily convinces him that he should. I disagree with her point that they already took sides. They didn’t. Taking a side would have been knowingly aiding or favoring one side or the other. Accidentally helping a warship because you thought it was a medical vessel trying to treat wounded soldiers is not taking a side. He would have done the same if the enemy ship had been badly damaged. And can we just acknowledge how Seven was running the show here, not Harry? She convinced him to help the ship, she convinced him to keep helping the ship. And we know Seven can take Janeway’s lessons a little too far, like she did here. So not only did Harry aid a warship in doing war things, but he also ruined Voyager’s chances of trading for that... whatever it was they were trading for.

The resolution was boring. I don’t remember exactly how Harry and Seven got out of this but they kicked some peeps out of the ship in escape pods, then safely got the ship to where it was going anyway (so now there’s a bunch of defenseless pods floating out there for no reason), then suddenly Harry was back on Voyager being indecisive about what he wants for dinner because he isn’t ready for command. But the scene with him and Janeway talking about promoting him is so awkward because he really should want a promotion at this point. Tom has been demoted then promoted again and doesn’t even command ever, including the night shift. He assists Chakotay sometimes. I’m just saying.

In other news, Ryan’s Edits (aka the light of my life) put out a video called An Accurate Summary of Star Trek: The Omega Directive and it was an absolute joy to watch. So if anyone needs just a little more Voyager content, I highly recommend it. His videos are incredible, especially the ones where Riker bursts into song. I saw an actual real video of Picard singing country western and thought it was this guy.
