I am so thankful I have found you! I've posted about this and would explain to friends and family about ear rumbling and the "happy button" and always felt like a liar.
I feel the focus on goosebumps misses the point and perhaps doctors and scientists don't get it....
At the base of my skull is an imagined button or "muscle." I "press" it and a sublime wash of tingles flows around the back of my head down my arms and down the outside of my legs.
A byproduct of this is piloerecrkn.
The reason I do this is to feel the chills and tingles. The only thing that has felt better other then sex was when I was given iV morphine after a motorcycle accident.
I think ASMR people and frisson people are like us except they have to use an outside stimulus.
It would be awesome to have a 4 groups all in a CAT scan or FMRI.
The control group is asked to give themselves goosebumps. They are then shown ASMR content and frisson content and when they feel the chills they press a button. VP group simply gives themselves chills and presses the button to let the scientust know.
What area of the brain is lit up? Is there a different area lit up from us before we get the chills? Or is it all the same?
