I don't know if I'm alone in this feeling, but something about the dozens of RPGMaker eroge titles I see (most of KaguraGame's catalogue) just fills me with rage.
I just hate the aesthetic style of the default RPGMaker sprites and tiles. I really hate the contrast with the actual drawn character portraits and CGs.
The thing is, I do like a lot of games with RPGMaker as their base engine, but they generally have their own custom aesthetic style and it all feels internally consistent. The impression a lot of these RPGMaker eroge give are just slapping ero cgs on top of a generic RPGMaker game and calling it a day. They just look bad.
I haven't actually played many of these so it would be unfair for me to comment on the gameplay of these titles. I only played one, it didn't manage to hold my attention, and I don't even remember what the name of it was. Really, it's mostly just the visual aesthetics and the lack of internal cohesion that irritates me. It doesn't matter if the CGs look good, if the majority of the time I have to look at ugly sprites, I am just completely uninterested.
Does anyone else feel the same way? People who enjoy these types of games, do you have any recommendations for ones that you feel are genuinely good?
