We all know the obligatory issue with spend going from capex to opex and at least doubling. (Mine was 218%)
But we’re also in the middle of a hardware refresh - and I was quoted HPe gear with dual 36c intel procs, up from our current 20c. It just seemed like the “future” move to make. But with the licensing now, I’m not pulling the trigger. I need to reevaluate cost benefit. Was this part of the last scheme all along ? I’m definitely not going to the cloud - there are just too long a list of reasons not to. My workloads are not dynamic enough. But just because of AVGO pricing things up - they have held a PO hostage for HPe. Manufacturers have to be sweating because I’m not the only one that’s withholding 6 & 7 figure POs because of VMware now. MFG have to be putting pressure on them. Intel and AMD are going to be feeling this too - no longer is it a core count race. This will certainly prep apps teams to utilize bigger ram packages and less compute.
So my question is - What else is this affecting besides just the $ grab for the Type1 hypervisor.
