Dead or Alive challenged..

Just picked up DOA for the vita. I did the tutorials just fine, but once I start a fight on beginner level it's like watching a can of whoopass being opened on me! I mean I can't even get in any hits because my opponent moves lightening fast. Any tips? Thanks
