What is WAYRStats?

I'm so glad you asked in such an incredibly convenient and properly formatted manner! WAYRStats is a data science script written in Python that passes a search query to the Reddit API and processes the results. In plain English, my script passes a string to Reddit to run as a search on /r/visualnovels; this search string isolates and returns nothing but the WAYR threads. Using this fucking mountain of data I get as a result I can go through ALL that information, parse it in various ways, and set up basically whatever leaderboards/metrics/analytics I (or you!) could want.

So I guess I've both dreaded this post and pushed it off for as long as I could and I'll just give it to everyone straight - I have not had the drive to contribute to this project and community in a meaningfully significant enough fashion that I feel this community deserves. I was late on the vast majority of these posts this past year and it just continued to become a bigger sharper thorn gnawing at my side. I think that y'all deserve better than your funny uncle stopping by the house 3 times per year and dumping gifts in your lap before downing a cigarette in a single pull getting in his '87 F150 with 479,000 miles on it and driving into the sunset. So, I have come to this bittersweet decision; I would like to ask if someone in the subreddit would be willing to step up to the plate and continue these posts in my stead.

As of now the project is 1,000 lines of extensively documented, bug-tested, and formatted code for ease of readability, available in full up on github. Whomever wishes to take command of this project can contact me at any time for clarification and further bug testing; there's just a couple authentication tokens you will need to generate on your end first before being able to run everything in full.

I'm very proud of this project and I honestly think it helped change these threads for the better, as was my original goal. You all are posting bigger write-ups more often and actively engaging with other comments, not just replies to your own (I know, I counted). It is my biggest wish that these leaderboard threads continue into the foreseeable future and become a standard feature for the subreddit, encouraging old and new members alike to talk about this tirelessly eccentric medium with one another...cuz nobody in real life is willing to.
