What is WAYRStats?

I'm so glad you asked in such an incredibly convenient and properly formatted manner! WAYRStats is a data science script written in Python that passes a search query to the Reddit API and processes the results. In plain English, my script passes a string to Reddit to run as a search on /r/visualnovels; this search string isolates and returns nothing but the WAYR threads. Using this fucking mountain of data I get as a result I can go through ALL that information, parse it in various ways, and set up basically whatever leaderboards/metrics/analytics I (or you!) could want.

Conclusions

So many fixes! I spent a big chunk of time yesterday revisiting the code and wrapping my brain around it again - it's been a good 4 months since I did some serious work on things and I've forgotten a lot about how everything is tied together, don't wanna poke at anything too hard or shit's gonna start falling apart. With that said I wanna say everything that was mentioned last month has been visited, and then some! Last month I wanted to work on further automating the posting process, and I went from having about 80% of the formatting covered to now closer to 95%. With the addition of a template file I can now have a post shell with intros, separators, comments, and the like, which the script will load from and output a separate text file with the data, formatting, and description texts all handled; if it weren't for this conclusion section I write every time I could very well have the script post the output straight to reddit!

In addition to the automation fixes, I've fixed a number of issues that impacted data accuracy in the previous post - I will probably be running the script again soon to retroactively fix those old statistics, but I'm happy to announce that those inaccuracies should not be an issue this time around.

Lastly, a leaderboard I had put on the backburner for a long time while I thought about how best to implement it: Snooze button! I was not sure on how to best implement this, and it could still use some improvement, but here's what I got:

I think this formula does a decent job of applying a weighted value to this more ephemeral end of the scale - it's easy to determine who's had their posts up for the longest, but when examining the bottom of the scale it's hard to avoid 1, having the top be solely comprised of single-post users who get in under the line, or 2, further rewarding the same people who top the party goers list - the more your posts see the light of day the less you get off of the "bonus" weight applied to your score, I like it.
