YouTube iOS and VR. What the hell?

I only loosely follow this stuff, but is it still possibly the case that iPhones have ZERO support for 360 VR videos? The thing that android has had for a year? It seems that to watch an VR video on an iPhone I have to find a special app instead of just pressing an icon on the video as with android? This seems especially insane as YouTube has just launched some sort of love 360 streaming project. If this is the case where is the outrage and who do I complain to?
