Is SteamVR Home just dead?

I've never really dabbled in SteamVR Home until recently, while exploring new environments. But so many of them are just lackluster or unoptimized that I can't bother. Paired with the lack of features and bad UI, I feel like it's just bust.
Is there a point to SteamVR Home, aside from turning it off in SteamVR? I'd love a space to just chill and watch things via my desktop or rearrange stuff. Essentially, I want a VR launcher with more depth than Virtual Desktop.
